Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year Celebration was a collaborative effort between the National Education Committee and the Chinese Language Unit. The aim of this year’s programme was to show the meaning and joy of this traditional Chinese festival with Woodlanders of all races. Besides the culturally rich and informative Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) lessons aimed at enriching students’ knowledge of interesting festive customs, students and staff were also treated to a lion dance performance and a concert.  In this year’s concert, we continued last year’s Mass Greeting segment, where representatives from each class showed appreciation to their form teachers by presenting them with Mandarin oranges together with Chinese New Year greetings. As part of the school’s yearly tradition, the Hamper Wrapping Competition continued to be an avenue for classes to showcase their creativity and also demonstrate the virtue of caring and sharing during this festive season. Beautifully decorated hampers filled with love were delivered to the Sree Narayana Nursing Home. This activity taught students the invaluable lesson of contributing to society and raised their awareness of the needy in our society.
